Episode 08: STI’s & Low Rise Jeans

This week I am joined by Gia Ciccolo. Gia is a social justice advocate, public health practitioner and aspiring physician who is passionate about reproductive rights and sexual education. With a scholarship from the Posse Foundation, she holds a BA in Biology and Spanish from Bucknell University, and an MPH from Boston University. Through Masters International, she served in the Peace Corps in rural Guatemala, working on Maternal and Child Health and women’s empowerment. She currently works in research focusing on the health disparities in the Emergency Department patient population. As she is applying to medical school, her goal is to create a safe space for patients to share their needs and to advocate for them to improve overall health outcomes.

In this episode we talk about the shame around STI’s, the erasure of the clitoris in sex ed, the importance of teaching communication skills, the absence of consent education, growing up in a single-parent home, the benefits of growing up in diverse communities, and more.

You can follow along with Gia and her work on instagram @Giaelaina.
